Several of the reviews on this site ask the Disney studio to release this film on DVD. Well, they have and this review refers to the DVD version.

I have been familiar with this movie since I worked at the Disney studio in 16mm film distribution in the 1970s (about 7 years before the VHS blockbuster years began), and am familiar with the original negatives. In what I am finding to be typical of the Disney folks, this film is presented in a ‘full frame’ version, rather than a WIDESCREEN version. The film was shot for a 1:85×1 projected ratio (known as Academy Flat) which presents the picture in a slight retangular format. However, a full frame, 4×3 video transfer of such a negative isn’t all that bad, although it would have distinguised it from the normal VHS format.

Also, I am very surprised that the Disney people didn’t make an effort to ‘clean up’ the original negative, which contains a great amount of negative dirt and scratches. The DVD does preserve the original look to the film (color and tint), but there has been so much technology invented to digitally reproduce an almost flawless image, that I am surprised it isn’t been used. It is one of trhe major reasons that people have switched to DVD.

Also, look for a mistake in the original negative. Just after the horses board the train, there are reddish, flash frames (possibly an overexposure to the camera original negative) which could easily have been removed digitally.

A few “extras” would have been nice, such as behind-the-scenes material. This stinginess is becomming something notorious with recent Disney DVD releases. Walt Disney shot tons of background footage for every movie he made, and this is stored in the studio vaults. I’ve seen it in 16mm, although it was shot on 35mm.. You can ignore the lack of a WIDESCREEN image if the DVD contained these precious extras. Otherwise, it’s just a transfer of the old VHS image. What’s the point of that?

As far as Robert Taylor’s performance, far from being ‘wooden’ (as one reviewer wrote) I agree with another reviewer who said that he was protraying a real man (who was also alive at the time and a hero in Europe), and the script and direction decided to present a truthful, realistic portrrait of him. Don’t forget that this movie, and many others (BALLERINA, HORSE WITHOUT A HEAD, ALMOST ANGELS) were shot in Europe after World War II. They were made chiefly for a European theatrical audience and were intened for an American TV audience on THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF DISNEY. So, you’ll find a different style of acting and presentation: a bit slow for us, but perfect for their intended audience.

The Spanish Riding School of Vienna has been around for hundreds of years, but was nearly lost in WW2 when the Lipizzaner breeding herd was separated from the stud farm of Piber and moved into Czechoslovakia, and then faced with possible destruction at the hands of the Russians.

Alois Podhajsky, the Director of the school, made a bold request of the Americans, especially General Patton who himself had ridden in the 1912 Olympics, to save the horses. Patton appreciated the tradition of the Spanish Riding School and was able to effect the rescue of the breeding mares along with allied prisoners of war, effectively saving the Lipizzaners and the tradition of the School.

This Disney movie was made in 1963 and has some of the typical Disney characteristics of the time such as blunting the visual depiction of violence and war, but beyond the technical shortcomings, the movie accurately captures the desperate situation facing those who would save a longstanding tradition bound in living beings — both the horses and the riders — and how many individuals through both minor and grand gestures worked toward a common cause and saved an institution.

The movie was filmed largely on location, and to watch it is to see a real piece of living history. I highly recommend it.

Season three boasts 28 episodes (the episode not listed in jon sieruga’s proper review/episode guide to this season is the 14th episode of this season, FAMMILY Thought, where Uncle Bill breaks his leg during a skiing accident) and one truly sensational bonus feature. The special feature is a 30 little “Family Affair Reunion Special” featuring Kathy Garver (who played Sissy), Sherry Alberoni (who played Sissy’s bets friend and upstairs neighbor, Sharon), producer John Stephens and husband and wife writers Austin “Rocky” Kalish and Irma Kalish. The five sit in a semi-circle and chat for 30 minutes, offering lots of racy background information about the cast members (Irma remembers Brian Keith as never speaking to her on the area and Stephens remembers his prickly personality; Kathy adored him), the show’s legacy and the exciting arrangement the indicate was shot.

Each season the reveal got Brian Keith for impartial 65 days to shoot all his scenes for a season’s worth of episodes. (The series was shot this scheme to give Keith time to preserve filming motion pictures.) This meant that all the episodes had to be written before the season began and in most cases the episodes were filmed ahead of time, missing only the scenes that required Brian Keith. Producer Stephens remembers that when they were filmingw ith Keith, they would often work on 4 or 5 episodes in one day! He called its “organized chaos” and credits director Charles Barton, who filmed every episode.

We learn about Anissa Jones not being satisfied to calm be dragging around her Mrs Beasley doll by season four when she was 12 (she was 9 years worn in the first season when the twins were suposed to be 6) and both Stephens and Mr Kalish don’t have obvious things to say about her mother. On a more amusing mark, we hear about Sebastian Cabot measuring the length of Keith’s trailer to fabricate certain it wasn’t larger than his. We also rep out that Cabot had broken his wrist during season one (which explains the bandages on his one hand in season one) and it required surgury, which is why John Williams replaced him in a handful of episodes that season. We also get out that the 3-part episode LOST IN SPAIN was totally filmed on the network’s backlot, using sets from the TV series “From Rome With Adore.”

This is a astounding, chatty and informative feature. Its too awful that no one could convince Johnny Whittaker (”Jody”) to participate. It would be mammoth to accept a few commentary tracks with him and Garver in the fourth or fifth season.

This prove is idea of as a sitcom, but its really noteworthy more of a drama-dy. You better have some tissues come when watching “Christmas Came A Slight Early” where Buffy befriends a young homebound classmate (played by BRADY BUNCH’s Eve Plumb) who has leukemia. And you have to like the restraint and power of some of the more dramatic episodes of this season, especially “The Latch Key Kid” where Buffy’s modern friend, Lana, seems to live a very enviable life as a latch key kid who makes her absorb dinner and stays up as leisurely as she wishes or “Albertine” where the twins try to come by stop to a fresh unlit student who’s precise life may be very different than what she presents.

This is a note that has been long out of syndication. Thanks to MPI, we have uncut episodes to cherish. (One runt complaint, I wish the episodes had chapter breaks.) Well worth purchasing!

Episodes for Season Three include the noted 3-parter where the twins score lost while on a whisk through Spain (#19, 20, 21), Cissy falls in esteem with a pop star who writes a hit song for her (#25), Buffy and Jody encourage a shaded student–unusual for its time–with a tremendous imagination (#9), and the incredibly sensitive episode guest-starring splendid Eve Plumb as a youngster dying of leukemia (#7) . Thanks to the plot “Apartment 27A” for the episode list.

This is my well-liked movie version of the account of Helen of Troy. It’s more melodramatic and theatrical than the modern cable TV miniseries, but it is faster paced and has a grandeur and fascination with Greek mythology lacking in that version. At least Cassandra is Kassandra in this film - she’s endowed with the gift of prophecy, yet no one believes her until it’s too leisurely. Then again, many other mythological details are sacrificed for simplicity’s sake.

In the role of Helen, Rossana Podesta is radiantly elegant. She indeed has the face that could start a thousand ships. And the Paris of Jacques Sernas is nearly as pretty as his beloved. Their passion is believable, if a tad overblown. The rest of cast is first-rate too, especially the Priam of Sir Cedric Hardwick, Achilles of Stanley Baker and Odysseus of Torin Thatcher. Although the Trojan War occured during Mycenaean times, most of the situation designs and costumes appear to employ Classical Greece as the model, and to very marvelous achieve, for it gives the movie a nobility lacking in the more original version. It’s all pure Hollywood and many liberties have been taken. The spectacular scenery, broad matte work and action sequences nevertheless construct for a very keen movie. So where’s the DVD?

The Robert Wise 1956 production of “Helen of Troy”, despite its many expansive qualities in regard to production and historical recreation could never be accused of following religiously its main literary source in Homer’s Iliad. That said, by no means could it be said to detract from it unexcited being a top flight entry in the 1950’s cycle of mammoth cloak epics based around historical events. Being a passionate reader of all things to do with mature Troy I quiet collect this film, despite its many critics, to be first class entertainment and a astonishing introduction to both the period of the Trojan wars and especially to the broad historical romance between Paris, Prince of Troy and Queen Helen of Sparta, the face that launched a thousand ships. “Helen of Troy”, is a account movie lovers delight and combines all the suitable elements in breathtaking on region photography, colorful colour, broad area pieces and with enough battles, romance and intrigue to gain the interest. Warner Bros Studios planned “Helen of Troy”, as one of their biggest releases for 1956 and continuing their battle against the encroaching power of television spent a staggering 6 million dollars on the film which shows in every frame of this truly myth production. Highly romanticised it may be in parts but it unruffled does manufacture a serious attempt to note both sides in the celebrated Trojan war and what really motivated some of the alive to parties to go to war.

With such a mountainous fable as the topple of the legendary city of Troy to recount the film makers essentially had to simplify the chronicle but the overall facts as most people know them are kept largely intact. The action begins with the splendid young Prince of Troy Paris, (Jacques “Jack” Sernas), travelling to Sparta to offer a treaty of peace with the main Greek states headed by king Menelaus ( Niall MacGinnis), and his brother Agamemnon (Robert Douglas) . However on the slump his boat is wrecked in a storm and when he is washed ashore he is nursed help to health by an unknown young girl who in fact is Helen, Queen of Sparta (Rossana Podesta) . At the Spartan Court Paris is amazed to be introduced to his earlier nurse who is the Queen and the pair promptly topple in fancy. However they arrive into conflict with Menelaus and when Paris is forced to cruise for his life he impulsively takes Helen with him and returns to a disapproving Trojan court headed by his father King Priam (Cedric Hardwicke) . Helen’s abduction is an initiate declaration of war, but the Greek Kings joining forces to march against Troy have their believe selfish motives for doing so and are largely driven by the chance to allotment in Troy’s rich treasures. Combining with Odysseus (Torin Thatcher) and the legendary Achilles (Stanley Baker), the Greek swiftly sails and lays seige to Troy. The assaults on the city are firstly repulsed however as the years of siege wear the people of Troy inaugurate to inquire of that Helen leave with the invaders so that they can return to their earlier prosperous life. After an abortive attempt by Helen to offer herself aid to the Greeks and an unsuccessful fight to the death between Achilles and Paris’ brother Hector (Harry Andrews) the Greeks hatch a intention to fool the Trojans into believing that they have retreated . Constructing a sizable hollow wooden horse and leaving it on the insensible in front of Troy after they withdraw their ships the unsuspecting Trojans sail it into the city unaware that it is plump of Greek soldiers who under cloak of darkness climb out and inaugurate the city gates to the returning Greek army. The sack of Troy then occurs causing tragedy for the city and young lovers Paris and Helen. Helen is taken abet to Sparta but the colossal cherish she has for Paris endures even after his death.

Obviously dealing with one of the greatest romances of the worn world a film like “Helen of Troy”, will undoubtedly have a high romantic squawk never once however does that detract from the overall action of the share. The cast for this film contains some of the acting giants of British cinema in Sir Cedric Hardwicke beneficial as King Priam, Nora Swinburne as the loving Queen Hecuba, Stanley Baker as the arrogant strong man Achilles who has only one minor weakness and especially Torin Thatcher as the wily Odysseus who is responsible for the concept of building the wooden horse which proves to be Troy’s undoing. The two lead roles are played by unknowns at the time in Italian actress Rossana Podesta as Helen and french actor Jacques Sernas as Paris. Both of these young performers with their blonde superb looks certainly fit the allotment of the young lovers however the dubbing of their voices does at times effect a bit of a jarring finish. Even after the release of the fresh blockbuster “Troy”, Rossana Podesta and Jacques Sernas level-headed for me are the immediate visual images that arrive to mind when Paris and Helen are mentioned. Production values on this tale are first rate and the recreation of the city of Troy with its Minoan style architecture and high defensive walls is one of the greatest location pieces constructed for an memoir film during the 1950’s. The battle sequences intelligent hundreds of extras and the right sack of Troy done with no computer assistance are also first rate and the historical costumes created by Roger Furse for both the lead actors and the general military scenes are the result of a large amount of historical research into clothing of that time. The pleasurable production values of “Helen of Troy”, are topped off with a sublime musical earn courtesy of Max Steiner which I feel is one of his best for this type of film and lingers in your mind long after viewing the film.

Being an myth film lover from draw succor “Helen of Troy”, is fairly high on my list of tremendous budget efforts (for those times of course), that calm entertain nearly 50 years after they were produced. While not totally adhering to its source material in the Iliad I conception it now as an attractive action adventure romance filled with visually splendid residence pieces and played with an consuming earnest quality by all that was typical of this era of filmmaking. “Helen of Troy”, is dilapidated style movie making from the closing days of Hollywood’s golden age and aloof makes memorable viewing for movie buffs and action adventure lovers alike. Delight In.

Season 2 of Supernatural has far exceeded my expectations and it has far surpassed it’s debut season, which I didn’t consider was possible. Dean and Sam have matured and bonded over countless “hunts” protecting strangers from creatures they couldn’t even imagine in their worst nightmares. The acting in this season has been obliging. Both actors, Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Jared Padelecki (Sam Winchester) have keep in vast performances. I judge they both deserve Emmy’s! My current eposides for each would be Jensen’s performance in “In My Time of Dying,” “Children Shouldn’t Play with Expressionless Things,” “What Is and What Should Never Be (aka I Dream of Genie),” and “All Hell Breaks Loose Section II.” Jared has blown me away in “Hunted,” “Houses of the Holy,” “Born Under a Poor Label,” “Heart,” and “All Hell Breaks Loose Piece I.” There are some fantastically amusing episodes “The Usual Suspects,” Immense Tales,” “Hollywood Babylon,” and “Folsom Prison Blues.” The mix of suspense and humor are well balanced.

I treasure the blueprint that Eric Kripke, et al, add objective the true music/song to foreshadow what is coming or what has happened in the episode. It all honest ties together making the music almost another character on the exhibit.

Another gigantic thing about this season is that the brothers meet with some unique friends and reconnect with some archaic ones making recurring roles from Bobby, in particular, very delicious. There have been some amazing guest stars on the present from Linda Blair in “Usual Suspects,” Tricia Helfer was astonishing in “Roadkill,” and Emmanuelle Vaugier in “Heart” was fair perfect. There are so many surprises this season that impartial sustain you on the edge of your seat. After watching the season finale it looks like Season 3 promises to continue the thrills.

Here is a list of the episodes:

1.In My Time of Dying

18.Hollywood Babylon

19.Folsom Prison Blues

20.What Is and Never Should Be (aka I Dream of Genie)

21.All Hell Breaks Loose: Section I

22.All Hell Breaks Loose: Section II

The DVD is packed with special features. Of course they include the gag reel (which is always fun) . There are unaired scenes and commentary from the directors, producers, and Jared and Jensen. I even heard it will have Jared Padalecki’s new veil test. It will be inviting to behold how he interpreted the character from the beginning and compare how his character has grown over the two seasons.

I already have the episodes downloaded on my Ipod, but will definitely acquire the season for the DVD features.

- Jennifer

In the midst of this television season’s coverage of “Lost”’s plunge from grace and eventual comeback and the ample waves made by “Heroes”, not to mention the slew of increasingly brazen reality TV saturating the market this gem of a indicate got lost in the waddle. Season one was a solid open for the point to, paunchy of monster-and-hottie-of-the-week stories that stood alone while very slowly giving us an inkling of a larger region at work before ending with a glowing cliffhanger. The music was amazing, the guest stars colorful, and the homages to classic and fresh panic were thick. If you missed it, now’s the time to get up because season two is a winner in every possible device. The first episode is among the greatest season openers I’ve ever had the pleasure of viewing and it shakes this reveal to it’s very core and sets the tone for the entire year’s events. From there, Sam and Dean residence out to gather revenge for their deceased family members and place as many people as they can along the design. Second verse, same as the first, factual? Well, no, not quite. We composed come by our monsters-of-the-week and our cute guest stars and our classic rock soundtrack, but the tone of this season is so considerable darker and the events so traumatic that the stakes impartial seem to be on a whole other level. Friendships are made and broken, loyalties are tested, long-standing beliefs are challenged, all three Winchesters fight for their very souls, and almost nobody’s getting out whole. This season is a tooth-and-nail battle for survival and while it unexcited has a hefty dose of the humor that made the first season so great fun, it’s definite that this note is no longer objective playing around at having a larger station. This is the steady deal. Among the baddies met along the plot are more vampires (one played by an almost unrecongnizable Amber Benson of “Buffy” fame), a rogue hunter, a living tedious girl, a female werewolf (in the most heart-wrenching episode of any note I’ve seen this season), a deal-making demon for those who remember the chronicle of Robert Johnson, some of Sam’s fellow “gifted” children (we do learn their secret), and a Norse trickster god to name a few. The music, if anything, has gotten better this season and so have the guest stars. My well-liked guest performance has got to be the loveable Katherine Isabel from cult-classic werewolf flick “Ginger Snaps” who shows up twice and inspires adoration in every frame she’s in. If you missed this reveal on the CW, shame on you; now select this place. If you missed the first season steal that location too. This expose is so first-rate I’d loathe to seek it die because nobody bothered to scrutinize it for themselves. These kinds of shows are notoriously short-lived and the television big-wigs have runt patience for them so when one of this caliber gets on the air and stays on the air, we need to retain it that map in every arrangement we can. Succor terror, sci-fi, and fantasy television now, and we’ll be rewarded with more later. I hope.

Sid Pink’s “Wrathful Red Planet” was a delight when it came out four decades ago and it’s quiet mountainous fun to behold. In a day when low-budget SF flicks were all in gloomy and white, this ruby-hued gem was glorious, filmed in “Cinemagic” - a kind of solarized and red-tinted film processing gimmick. So boost the color control on your TV to the max and score your retinas scorched the map audiences did in 1960. Sid Pink’s pics tend to the bizarre - “Bwana Devil”, “Reptilicus”, “The Man From O.R.G.Y.” and of course the camp Hans Conried classic “The Twonky” about an alien TV situation that takes over a geek’s household. This film is no exception. This time four astronauts land on Mars, only to acquire they are unwelcome. Armed only with a sonic ray gun named Cleopatra — “because she’s such a chilly doll” — our brave quartet must fight off a meat-eating plant with a yen for red-haired Irish-American exo-biologists, a 40-foot-tall bat-rat-spider drooling over a goateed, pipe-smoking professor, and a one-eyed blob the size of a mountain that wants to appreciate their spaceship with everybody in it. All the while they are ogled by three-eyed, two-horned Martians with an attitude plight. Hand-painted sets, puppet monsters, beatnik dialogue, nothing but red as far as the explore can witness, and a jazz xylophone accumulate - hey, daddy-oh, this is like coolsville.

If you visited the cinema in the 1950s and into the 1960s, then you were acutely aware outer place was crawling with all kinds of voracious, horrible site creatures and hostile alien types waiting eagerly to decimate and/or like any fearless Earthlings foolishly willing to venture out into the stout unknown, as illustrated in the film The Aroused Red Planet (1960) . Given these apparent dangers, it’s a wonder we ever found anyone with guts enough to go into station…co-written by Sidney W. Pink (Reptilicus, Paddle to the Seventh Planet) and Ib Melchior (The Time Travelers), the latter also directing here, the film features Gerald Mohr (Invasion USA), Naura Hayden (”Bonanza”), Les Tremayne (The Monolith Monsters), and Jack Kruschen, who was nominated for an Academy Award around the same time for his role in the film The Apartment (1960) …kinda hard to bear after seeing him here…

At the outset we rep ourselves among some gooberment bigwigs…turns out a manned spaceship sent to Mars, once lost, has since been found (drifting in orbit around Mars), and the decision is made to bring it home by remote control. Since there’s been no communication with the ship, the fate of the four-person crew is questionable. Once returned to Earth, there appear two survivors, one Dr. Iris Ryan (Hayden), who’s in a severe site of shock, and the other not identified as he’s got some unsuitable location fungus, and is quarantined mercurial (perhaps they should have unprejudiced remote detonated the ship rather than bring it support to Earth…oh well, too unhurried now) . The computer tapes are blank, so the only answers have to approach from Dr. Ryan as to the fate of the mission, which takes us into a lengthy flashback. Time to meet your Mars crew…there’s the navigator/pilot Colonel Thomas O’Bannion (Mohr), a manly sort with the shuffle and chest hair to point to it, Dr. Iris Ryan, the obvious looker of the bunch, Professor Theodore Gettell (Tremayne), the positive brainiac sporting the prerequisite goatee and pipe, and finally the odious, idiotic, ethnic droll relief named Sam `Sammy’ Jacobs, the electronics expert, hailing from where else? Brooklyn, of course…anyway, after a lengthy bit of status recede, our audacious adventurers finally approach and explore the `red’ planet is really pink (no foolin’) . The surface seems devoid of luminous life, but there are plenty of hungry, carnivorous plants. As the professor ponders his sense of scare regarding the possibility of some sort of community mind in control of the planet, Tom puts the acquire on Iris, Iris endangers herself needlessly a few times requiring Tom to assign her, and Sammy pitches woo to his sonic freeze cannon due to its propensity to catch them out of jams (seriously…he names it Cleopatra and kisses numerous times…glean a room you weirdo) . Things accumulate improper as various native creatures, including a rather tall rat/bat/spider/crab creature and a ginormous, googly-eyed amoeba-like snot monster threatens to eat the crew, and a mysterious force field prevents them from taking off…

Perhaps the worst/best line from this film occurs after the rocket lands on Mars and the crew is deciding on their course of action. Sammy chimes in with this doozy…”Well, should we go out and claim the planet in the name of Brooklyn? ” Yeah, go ahead, dude, and don’t bother putting on your spacesuit…The Excited Red Planet, released by American International Pictures, is perhaps the epitome of shoddy science fiction films, featuring cardboard characters, lousy dialog, wicked acting, cheapie sets, crude rent special effects, and scads of pseudo science…so why should anyone want to inspect it? Because it’s a expansive, steaming load of fun. I judge my current character was Colonel Thomas O’Bannion, played by Gerald Mohr, who came off as a vulgar rent Humphrey Bogart type, with a propensity for hiking his leg up on whatever was available, and leaning on his knee. I mean really, this is objective a cold blueprint to talk to people, having your goodies splayed out fair in everyone’s face. For some reason, the buttons on his shirts never seemed to work properly, as often he can be seen running around bare-chested, displaying his beautiful man chest rug (eat yer heart out David Hasselhoff) . His abilities as a commander were questionable, as often his orders would go unheeded by the others. One thing’s for definite, he was always on the develop, continually hitting on Iris, regardless the dwelling (hey, when the ratio is three dudes to one woman, you gotta lay your claim early and often) . Nowadays that kind of continual attention would probably be labeled harassment, but encourage then, it was, well, harassment…as far as the special effects, they’re delicate contaminated, as I already mentioned, but they do have their charms, and no doubt made quite an impression on younger viewers who witnessed this feature around the time of its release. The main finish occurs once the crew ventures onto the surface of Mars, for the purpose of exploring. There’s a heavy, pink, Pepto-Bismol polarized tint, one that seems kinda wintry for about five minutes, but then wears thin speedy, inducing a leisurely ache in the noggin. If you dig on definite matte painting backgrounds, you’ll be in heaven here as there are scads of them, some decent, some not. As far as the creatures, I concept they were graceful decent considering, as I’m positive that great rat/bat/spider/crab monster would have afraid the hell out of me if I was all of ten years former. The tall beastie that came out of the lake was a bit more impressive, its menacing qualities offset slightly by its crazy, google gawk. I loved the fact it was unbiased some stout, unstoppable mass that, with miniature provocation, charged after the crew, chasing them all the diagram abet to their rocket, to which it then unprejudiced glommed on to the ship in an exertion to feed on the beefy contents. All in all this is radiant distinguished a thrown together peril, shot in less than ten days for a minimal budget, but one that does entertain. I’d consume this over the slew of vow to video CGI laden junk currently littering the home video landscape.

The recount, presented in fullscreen (1.33:1), looks decent, but I did survey a miniature graininess throughout. There was a frame or two missing, and the master print did demonstrate some microscopic wear and scramble. The Dolby Digital mono audio comes through very well. As far as extras, there isn’t considerable, only an unusual theatrical trailer.

FINALLY! A excellent catch of a Cirque du Soleil performance. I sufferied through the last two (”Novelle Experience” and “Saltimbanco”) disappointing videos. Watching one missed opportunity after another, I had to way from my memory of being at the performance to complete the portray. Or else I had to overcome annoying camera tricks. At last there is a film that enhances the experience of “Quidam” that surpasses the visions one gets from a a seat in the audience, and ALMOST equals the experience of being there.

Let me elaborate. Camera shots and close-ups are distinguished improved over previous ventures (I have not seen the film of “Alegria”), and now are better integrated into the overall experience. Rather than trying to build camera stunts of their absorb (there are some exceptions), the viewpoint tries to acquire or comment on what is being filmed.. The sound quality (captured from a live performance) is supurb.

And the acts are astounding. Many are actually more toothsome [to me] than in my two live viewings because of the viewpoint of this film. While some are not as impressive as some past acts have been, the contrivance the entire production encompasses their essence improves their impact. And some of the acts, quite frankly, are simply as marvelous as it gets.

But in this instance, the whole is far greater than the parts. This has always been a Cirque trait, but is particularly evident in “Quidam”. The vision that permeates every frame of this film, every motion of every performer, every brush stroke in every make-up, every price in the procure, every stitch in every costume– is as advanced as anything seen in any art-form -painting, dance, theater, music, athletic arts, light, sound, technical theatre –all fully expressed in one overwhelming artistic statement that produces no less than a spot of dread. Hey, but that is what you interrogate from Cirque du Soleil.

You fetch it here. For the first time (in my humble thought) on film. And now you can sit at home in comfort and esteem it again and again– and you can point to your friends what it is like to be in a very special world of enchantment.

Finally it’s here, Quidam on Video. My favourite touring demonstrate, with “O” taking the top marks in the fixed site department. After endless e-mails to Cirque’s marketing department, on when it would be out, it comes fair in time for Christmas. Shot in Amsterdam, The Netherlands succor in April this year, the note does a colossal job capturing the images of the present. From the joyfully opening of Chris Lashua’s German Wheel via the erotic Aerial contortion in silk by Isabelle Chasé to the heart-stopping Banquine finale by the entire cast. Many acts are shortend, espcially the playfull diabolos and hoop acts, others such as the Manipulation act, did not play in Amsterdam. However, the Manipulation act is replaced by the wonderfull Handbalancing, which former to alter with the diabolos serve in the states but is aid as a beefy act here. One thing is expansive though, and please Cirque buy stare, One slow clown act per display is really enough, and really takes enough hasten out of the prove, Quidam would be even better without Les Malcoma and with another act!, John alone brings more laughs than those three idiots from France.

Having seen the present 11 times, I would certainly say that Quidam on Video is something else than Quidam live, feeling the bass in the tent during the Statue objective adds to the whole experience. Being in the tent Cirque is a 360o experience something that is very difficult to assume on tape, even with Yet, the video provides 90 minutes of non-stop entertainment that is not to be missed. The quality of both the sound is so friendly, it eliminates the need for a Quidam live CD, since the orginal version impartial lacks many of the astounding exhibit tracks.

Indeed 5 stars for this video of this 5 star prove. Simply because it does what it should do: it reminds you of a broad night, it can’t compete with it, but hey for the note you can’t even take a restricted idea seat and then you certainly won’t explore and feel as distinguished of the demonstrate as you do when you acquire this fantastic tape. Now let’s all retain our fingers crossed for a fleshy version of Mystére on Video in 2003!, which shouldn’t be that hard…..

Since I grew up with this movie, I have seen it at least 30 times. This is one of the best Submarine Movies of WW-II action made. And not everyone knows this but this movie did deal with some truth. When the skipper is shot by a “Q” ship in a surface attack, he uses the drawl “Win Her Down” which was in actuality traditional by the CO of the USS Growler, after being critically wounded in action in 1942. And the torpedo peril in the movie was also accurate and they did plunge warheads from on high to test out various firing options. One submarine mentioned in the Movie was the Corvina, which really was a USN Sub, and she was suck by a Japanese Submarine like the movie portrays. Unlike other Sub Movies, this one has a lot of truth in it and is an well-behaved survey. It is made more realistic by being in murky and white. Sources for the above “Sink em All” By Vice Admiral Charles A. Lockwood, USN COMSUBPAC during WW-II

This is a cold saga of an American sub captain plagued by failure-prone weapons and an ocean rotund of Japanese to fight. They derive the reason the torpedoes didn’t work and place relieve to sea, this time, to lift agreeable care of the bad business at hand. One scene that brings the cost of war home is that the Thunderfish loaned another sub a movie, “Washington Slept Here.” Sometime later, they come by wreckage of an American sub, and the movie tells them who is at the bottom of the ocean. The Thunderfish strikes succor at the sub that got their friends, showing how unsafe it was out there and what courage it took to fight this war. The climax scene shows them in a Japanese-controlled harbor, with a waiting task force. They fire their unique and deadly torpedoes, and radio relieve to Cincpac about the taskforce and its position. They hasten for screen, and barely survive massive retaliation: the outcome is in doubt until the last, as it was for many other submariners. A fascinating, poignant, and bittersweet yarn that stresses the fact that nothing ever comes for free, even in war.

the anime itself is ample. Great O will always be one of my favorites but my one complaint with this is the packaging when i bought it i assumed with the name The Great O: Anime Legends Complete Collection that it would well be…the complete collection all the episodes unbiased not the first season. If it had been named The Sizable O: Anime Legends Complete Collection vol 1 then i could have assumed there would be a second vol but with out that i objective assumed that it would be the entire series and ended up buying vol 2 a week later after sadly realizing i was wrong

Imagine a crumbling domed Gotham City where everyone has amnesia, and Batman fights evildoers using a giant sad mecha.

That’s a fairly basic description of “The Astronomical O,” a odd and action-packed anime with an art deco style, a noir atmosphere and lots of giant robots and queer conspiracies. This is no simplistic action prove — there’s a deep central mystery that each episode revolves around, and some deeper meditations on the nature of memory.

Negotiator Roger Smith is hired to accept the kidnapped daughter of a client abet… only to search for that “Dorothy” is an android, who asks him to protect her. When he starts investigating, Roger learns of her “sister” — mountainous mecha “Dorothy 1″ — who can only be stopped by his possess mecha, the Megadeus called “Enormous O.” But when Dorothy vanishes during the attack, Roger must rep her before a gang of thieves do.

With the back of Dorothy and his faithful butler Norman (and occasionally hardened cop Dastun), Roger uses Vast O to deal with a series of increasingly bizarre mysteries. Among his problems: a giant electric eel, a skeletal mecha controlled by the psycho ex-reporter “Schwarzwald,” a billionaire’s missing son, a piano-playing android, a “sea titan” in a flooded city, a mysterious cat with horrifying origins, a Heaven’s Day attack, and a mysterious woman haunting Dastun’s dreams.

Things remove a darker turn in the last few episodes, especially since Paradigm City’s queer past becomes the most necessary fraction. Roger is hired to give a severance check to Schwarzwald, but becomes enmeshed in his plans for Paradigm City — and witnesses the unveiling of another Megadeus, Vast Duo.

And when a series of murders are committed by a red-cloaked figure — who leaves Large O’s motto “Cast In The Name of God, Ye Not Guilty” at each crime — Roger starts to suspect that Dorothy may be fervent. And even more confusing, Roger is suffering flashbacks of whatever happened forty years ago… which may be even more inferior than anyone suspects.

“The Great O” is one of those series that drips with lots of influences — it hasa fine classic noir feeling, more than a hint of “Batman,” and some tinges of Isaac Asimov (R. Dorothy? ) . And even the animation has a style reminiscent of art deco, with lots of long spruce lines and dim shapes — even the gargantuan Megadeuses and other mecha have them.

But the trusty beauty of “The Gargantuan O” is in the storytelling: the individual plots are reminiscent of a noir detective’s adventures, but with a unique sci-fi twist — a enraged journalist in a alarmed subway, a exasperated geneticist, and giant robots that sail and swim. It’s also graced with some explosive slam-bang action, moving hi-tech gadgets, and lots of wry humour (Dorothy sets off an elevator’s weight fear) and dialogue (”Did you say ‘mama’? As in your mother? “) .

And running under each episode is the haunting demand of what happened to Paradigm forty years ago. The plots tumble hints about floating memories and something awful that turned Paradigm City into a series of half-ruined boroughs. This is especially honest in the final episode, which briefly shows the horrifying past.

Dashing playboy Roger Smith is a delicate likable hero — charismatic, charming, a bit lacking in chivalry at times, but ultimately quite fearless and kind. Dorothy’s emotionless attitude makes a nice counterpoint, but she shows some signs of becoming more human (”Even I feel like playing the blues sometimes”) . And for the upright noir feel, there’s a mysterious femme fatale named Angel who keeps getting Roger into danger, and the likably efficient butler/cook/technician Norman.

While it appears to be objective another mecha anime on the surface, “The Ample O” is actually a clever sci-fi/noir series with underlying conspiracies and haunting mysteries.
